Regardless of where they hail from or if they keep kosher, students from many different backgrounds have come together to cook, eat, laugh, and learn in our festive and informative cooking classes. Sign up now to meet celebrity chefs, learn new recipes, explore exotic ingredients, and cook delicious dishes. And, of course, classes are followed with a great meal you had a part in preparing!
The mission of Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan is to foster an inclusive, engaged and informed community that embraces diversity and is rooted in Jewish values.
The original teacher was not able to come. It was not well organized or executed. Although we had fun the class should have been cancelled. Also there should have been some type of snack or beverage to have before we ate after 9pm.
Teacher did not attend and a last minute substitute did instead.... Preparation was weak and the facility lacked adequate materials, space and equipment for full participation by all attendees....
It was good but not great. We cut mostly veggies and I would have liked to experience cutting other types of things. There could have been more individual assistance given to the students on their technique.
The students and staff were phenomenal in terms of friendliness and being helpful. However, the chef strongly disliked me for whatever unknown reason. Maybe I am the only Asian in the class. When I had a question, he would either ignore me or cut me off, but went all of his way out to help the other students in the class. When I pointed out this unfair treatment, there continued to be resentment and awkwardness in the class, that did not subside until the very end after having our meal. Also, one of the main ingredients, artichoke, was missing from the menu and 14 out of 16 students were so looking forward to making this dish that was advertised as one of the main dishes. Thus, I have mixed feelings about returning again for another JCC cooking class, but if I do, it will definitely be with another nicer chef.
The class was so much fun and helpful. I learned a lot about knives and how to utilize a knife. The class size was perfect. Chef Shaya was skilled and vivacious. Jennifer was helpful. We learned more than Knife Skills and I really enjoyed the class. Thank you JCC, Chef Shaya and Jennifer. I would definitely take another class with Chef Shaya.
OUTSTANDING! Chef Shaya was awesome! So knowledgeable, kind, funny and helpful. I loved it and highly recommend!!!
Wonderful class, delicious results, and an informed and dynamic instructor. Highly recommended!
The food was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to make these recipes on my own. Loved this class!
Lots of fun. Chef Mike was patient and gave the class a lot of great tips. Food was delicious.
Great class! Beyond the recipes themselves there were lots of tips, both Thai-specific as well as general kitchen skills, that these two rather seasoned home cooks found useful.
