Life Skills Training in NYC are rated 4.5 stars based on 4,396 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • One of the best classes I’ve ever been on. The instructor was so funny, everyone was having a blast, the vibe was great! The day was great. Learned some much. One hundred percent do it again and will! Looking forward for summer classes.
  • Really enjoyed the class I learned so much looking forwards to taking this course again.
  • Wildman Steve is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging and kind. This course has changed the way I walk in our city parks.
  • I actually had an amazing time! Definitely rate it 5 stars. The class was so informative. I learned a lot and our teacher was very helpful. It felt good to be able to learn a new skill while others learned other things. Great environment.
  • Marina as great!
  • This was a lot of fun, it was great learning more about Market 57 and the brands represented. All the tastings were absolutely delicious.
  • Delightful experience and guide, will do again. Main advice - bring hand warmers in the winter.
  • Excellent course! Only issue was actually finding the in-person foraging class, which was meeting in a crowded public area without sufficiently specific location details and no instructor contact details on the Coursehorse website or emailed course registration confirmation. Luckily the instructor's name was mentioned on the Coursehorse website, and I was able to do and online search, find his contact info and reach him by phone to locate the class so my daughter and I could get there before they departed into the woods for the class. Coursehorse should provide better class meeting location details and instructor contact information on their website and emailed course registration confirmations.
  • This class was amazing– exactly the kind of expert and community treasure we should be featuring on this platform. Steve is awesome. I had an amazing time, it was exactly what I was looking for and showed me new dimensions of my neighborhood and connect with my neighbors.
  • I really enjoyed the class. For me, I found the information so useful and it does leave me wanting to learn more.
  • Instructor was so informative and really knew her stuff. Class size small & very intimate. Learned the basics with lots of great tips!
  • The class was extremely informative and steve is a funny guy.
  • The educational quality of the class was outstanding. Marina ensured that I learned everything I needed to know about the makeup that suits me best for me, my sling, shape and how to apply it with ease and precision. Her focus on teaching effective techniques was incredibly helpful, now I know that I can use all my products, without thinking that i don’t have highly expensive products. Now I know I can do good makeup on myself that I need all the time. I highly recommend this class to anyone seeking professional makeup education.
  • What a great class! Great instructor who taught you balance, posture, sitting/standing techniques as well as fall prevention. Signed up for every week as soon as I left the session.
  • I recently attended a self-makeup class with Face Style Studio, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. Marina, our instructor, is exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled. She is the perfect person to share makeup techniques and tips. Throughout the class, I learned exactly what I needed. Marina tailored the session to focus on the makeup that suits me best and taught me how to apply it easily and effectively. The emphasis on technique was particularly valuable, making the whole experience incredibly beneficial. I highly recommend this class to anyone looking to improve their makeup skills!
  • I took a 90-minute class with Face Style Studio because I wanted to learn how to correctly do makeup for every occasion. Marina was incredibly helpful and even extended the class time to ensure she showed me everything. Her attention to detail and the class's structured approach were impressive. Marina began by demonstrating the application techniques, sharing tips and tricks that only a makeup artist would know. Then, I practiced applying the makeup on myself. It was surprisingly easy and turned out amazingly well! I love what I learned and the way I learned it, thanks to Marina's exceptional teaching methods. I recommend from heart a class with Face Style Studio!
  • Steve was hilarious, insightful and took great care on guiding us through the park and providing detailed identification of plants. Best money you'll ever spend on a course, and one that will help you find free food for the rest of your life!
  • The instructor was very informative! And the foraged snacks along the way were delightful treats. I feel more connected to our parks after taking this foraging class.
  • The class was awesome. I had many takeaways
  • Bonsai

The instructor was friendly and very knowledgeable on the care of Bonsai trees. He gave us the 101 and then guided students on proper pruning and styling to get us the most beautiful bonsai to take home. I really enjoyed the class and would highly recommend it!
  • Wildman Steve is a quite the character, but a devoted and invaluable resource for learning about the world around us! Highly recommend this insightful and surprisingly affordable experience.
  • Despite that day's rainy conditions, I really enjoyed this urban foraging adventure. Wildman Steve's wealth of knowledge & experience, casual teaching style, and humor kept me engaged the entire time. I was amazed to learn about just how many edible plants and mushrooms were growing all around us in this city park. My only regret was forgetting to bring a collection bag to take some samples home!
  • It was great class and teacher! However please check hus website for the actual info of the class! Meeting location is the same but the time is probably different! Definitely worth it, he was very knowledgeable and funny!
  • It was fun! We walked through prospect park looking for different plants/herbs to forage. The guide was eccentric and knowledgeable. I definitely forgot most of the things he taught us, but it was fun regardless.
  • It was fun activity and the instructors were very friendly
  • Loved it simple and straightforward yet very creative and the instructors were helpful and friendly
  • Bonsai

Lots of great info on how to take care of a bonsai tree.
  • It was a really positive experience. The teacher was very kind, knowledgeable, and was exactly where he said he’d be in the park. I’d book again
  • The Herbs 101 class was both informative and enjoyable. Ms. Richards was very knowledgeable on the subject and presented it to us in an interactive and interesting way. Definitely a positive experience and I highly recommend! Can't wait to learn more...
  • Bonsai

Such a great class and way to spend a Sunday! I learned so much about all aspects of bonsai, and the instructor Julian Velasco clearly is a Master and passionate about his art. Plus I got to take home a miniature work of art/new friend that I will enjoy for years to come! Highly recommended!
  • Steve and Violet were immensely knowledgeable and I recommend this walk to anyone curious about connecting with the plants in their path. As an amateur forager, I left with several new plant allies to name and work with as food and medicine. Disclaimer: brace yourself for some seriously corny jokes :-)
  • The class was great! Aesha was so knowledgeable and friendly. I am very happy that I attended!
  • Bonsai

This class was really sweet and informative. Julian comes across as genuinely interested and enthusiastic about bonsai and plant care in general. All the necessary materials were provided, as well as long term care guidance and hands on assistance with shaping the tree. Everyone left with something they could feel good about. Attendees in my Sunday morning class ranged from elementary school aged children to retirees, total plant novices to green thumbed black belts.
  • Landscape Design Tips: Learning from Before and After

I loved this class! There is nothing like seeing before and after photos of a landscape- it brings a concept or idea to life. I bought Jan's book, "Gardentopia" after the class and quickly read it, cover to cover. It touches upon everything we learned in the class and more. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in landscape design. The class was 2 hours, which flew by far too quickly. I wanted to stay for another 2, or more! Jan is a veteran in her field and is very generous with her expertise. I left feeling encouraged and inspired. I hope to take more classes from Jan.
  • Great experience, would go again a different time of year to learn more!
  • wildman steve brill is an incredible teacher & entertainer! we had a blast learning about edible (& inedible) plants right here in nyc
  • Comprehensive and informative, really cool practical knowledge and fun guidance!
  • Dauntless Dahlias

There were people in attendance with various degrees of knowledge regarding dahlias. The instructor went over anything and everything. Something for everyone.
  • Bonsai

This class was really educational! Julian gave a really good rundown of how to take care of bonsai, I was amazed at how much information he was able to share in such a short time span. The bonsai that I took home with me was also beautiful and I'm excited to take care of it for the next few decades. The day that I went to the class it was almost full so unfortunately there was not that much 1:1 time with the instructor, but he still did come around and help each student at least twice. I had a fun time and was surprised by how quickly the two hours flew by. Definitely recommend this class to anyone who is interested in learning how to properly take care of bonsai!
  • Bonsai

Loved it! The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and fun to listen to talk about bonsais and bonsai care.
  • Bonsai

    Great workshop, loved it!
  • I loved this course! Jo Anne was wonderful and incredibly informed. I learned a lot and had fun the whole time! I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone interested.
  • Bonsai

    It was great. Very fun.
  • Bonsai

    It was very fun.
  • Our host Joanne was engaging, warm, kind, and extremely knoweldgeable. I'm definitely going to ALL of her workshops. She is a wealth of information and I can't wait to learn more from her.
  • Bonsai

Such a fun class. Julian was a great teacher and our Bonsai looks so cute!
  • What a wonderful class and such a warm experience. I got so much more out of it than I had expected. The instructor is very knowledgeable and forthcoming with information. I’m looking forward to a healthier lifestyle change!
  • Dawn was so informative, engaging, and lovely! Definitely recommend for anyone who is interested in learning about local NYC plants and medicinal herbs.
  • This was a great class and environment to get me started on my art journey. The teacher was very kind, encouraging, and helpful with me getting my ideas for collage together into an art piece that I love. I definitely want to take more classes and check out the classes for my granddaughter.
  • This could not have been any better. Mr. Wildman is about as entertaining and informative as any instructor ever. Bring a friend and take a walk around the park eating the edible plants you walk past un-knowingly every day. Make sure to bring water and a lunch unless you want to subsist on gout weed alone! Bring a plastic or paper bag if you want to keep some plants for recipes. We made a great pesto from the greens we collected.

Life skills are the necessary capabilities that help you navigate life with ease. If having a certain skill makes your life hassle-free, more enjoyable, or more enriching, then it can be considered a life skill. All life skills have varying levels of difficulty that ultimately depend on your previous experience, interests, and goals. For example, a basic life skill is knowing how to load the laundry machine. However, a more complex skill to have may be knowing how to fix the laundry machine when it stops working.

Why You Should Learn Life Skills in NYC

Aside from practicality, learning a new skill is an easy and fun way to connect with others in your area or other people with similar interests. You could even turn a life skill into a hobby such as writing. In turn, you could even turn that hobby into a part-time career.
