Fraternal & Prong Settings

Fraternal setting is a decorative technique used in Victorian and Art Deco jewelry. The process involves embedding an ornament or stone into a main stone. Prong setting is popular in the commercial jewelry world. Students will learn to cut seats and with the use of special pliers secure the stones into the settings. Tuition includes $35 material fee for settings and stones, which are provided by the instructor in class.

Star setting is a vintage technique that was very popular in Victorian jewelry. With the use of special engravers students will learn to raise beads, form a star and secure the stones in place. Gypsy setting. This technique is also referred to as burnish setting. In this setting a gem is embedded into the metal and set flush to it’s surface.
