  • Exceptional class, Jyl is a masterclass teacher!
  • Really enjoyed the class. First time with watercolors. I’m hooked!
  • Excellent class from a knowledgeable baker. Exceeded my expectation as I'm hard of hearing and she wore a device so I was able to hear the demonstration. Pick up some good information for different challah shapes.
  • I learned a lot. Thanks B!
  • The class was great! Learned a lot of skills that I’m looking forward to trying at home.
  • Excellent space. Great instruction by Chef David and his outstanding assistant Alexi. They were very accommodating and helpful to make sure I was successful due to my hearing issues. Exceeded my expectations.
  • I really appreciate the quality and detailed knowledge. Hands-on is always better, and that is what I received. Watching videos online is fine, but it is nothing like an instructor correcting your form and technique in person. If you want to make sure you have your technique done correctly, then I recommend this class. The chefs were very helpful. You can take your chopped veggies home, and they offer student discounts if you want to purchase kitchen items. A bench scraper is a lifesaver while working in your kitchen, too.
  • Chef Andy was friendly, approachable, interactive in her teaching style, very knowledgeable and eager to share her cooking experience and knowledge with us. She was non-judgmental about the skills and knowledge and questions asked by us. The food was delicious. The only suggestion would be to provide the recipes at the beginning so we could follow along and take notes as we went. Overall a fabulous experience and I would definitely take another class from Chef Andy!
  • I’ve really enjoyed this class! B is an excellent teacher and as someone who is new to drawing, I learned a lot of fundamental techniques that will be essential as I progress.
  • This course is run by Chef Franco of Franco Sushi. He is an excellent teacher, and he is very prompt with communication before and after the class. This would be an ideal class for a date night as well, since he can run it as a private class for 2 people.
  • Nice and easy class and the lipstick was awesome.
  • It was very fun
  • I gifted this sculpture workshop to my fiancé for his birthday. This helped beat the winter blues and a perfect date-style activity. The studio is gorgeous, the teacher made everything feel accessible, and we left with finished pieces we’re actually proud of. Bonus points for being active and getting the blood flowing. Would absolutely recommend.
  • Samaya was fabulous! She was so patient and sweet. Her instructions were perfectly simple and straightforward, yet never condescending. A true professional, I would refer anyone to her and hope to take more courses from her. I learned so much in such a short period.
  • The instructor was great. Good pace.
  • Chef Koko was delightful! We had a great time.
  • The workshop was interesting and fun. Shari welcomed us warmly and was extremely professional. Her explanations at the beginning were very clear, and she guided us through every step of the process. The atmosphere in the studio was pleasant throughout, and Shari encouraged us to be creative and was open to every idea we had. Highly recommended!
  • We had a great time. Chef Coco was really knowledgable and we learned how to make sushi. We have already bought supplies to try it at home!
  • An awesome opportunity to do a start-to-finish project in a single day, as a total beginner. Jyl was very generous in helping to learn tools and techniques, and also in sharing information and stories about her work and her involvement in the art scene.
  • Very fun and educational workshop! Jyl did a great job of providing technical direction while allowing us to explore our creativity. It was really cool that we were able to finish a sculpture and take it home in one day!
  • The pacing of the class was easy to follow. Jyl was kind and knowledgeable. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or to hit the alabaster a bit harder.
  • My dream is to be a stone sculptor. This course make my dream real! I need to practice more but Jyl is the best teacher mentor you can find! She is a specialist in marble sculpture using the same techniques used by the greatest sculptors in history. Yes, with the same technique that Michelangelo used. I am very grateful to Jyl and I recommend with all certainty to anyone who finds something beautiful in marble sculptures and wants to try or anyone who loves art and wants to try a new art, this is for you!
  • I had an amazing time at A Taste of Italy (BYOB)! The staff was warm, welcoming, and made the whole experience so much fun. The class itself was really well run, and I’d definitely recommend it for a night out with friends or a date. In terms of the food, it leaned more toward Americanized Italian cooking than traditional Italian, so if you’re looking for truly authentic regional dishes, just set your expectations accordingly. That said, everything we made was delicious, approachable, and easy to replicate at home. Overall, a great experience — fun, interactive, and the team behind it really made it special.
  • My second time taking this class. Its a unique and fun experience that you don't find a chance to do often. Especially when being able to work closely with the instructor.
  • This course was absolutely phenomenal! The instructor and course are accessible and welcoming to students at all skill levels, from someone with absolutely zero experience in any arts (like myself) to some of my classmates who were talented illustrators and promising beginner/intermediate stone carvers. Jyl is very friendly and knowledgeable and eager to introduce pupils to stone carving. I loved working in her studio and seeing all the wonders she's made and previewing her works that are in-progress. After 6.5 hours, our class had taken rough blocks of stone and turned them into our visions; some complex and some very simple (like mine). But they were ours. I highly recommend this class to everyone!
  • I went to the pasta-making class at The Chopping Block in Lincoln Square on Tuesday, September 2nd, and it was honestly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. This class was a birthday gift for me (probably the best gift I’ve ever gotten), and it made for not only a super fun birthday outing but also a great date night with my partner. This was my first cooking class ever, and as someone who already loves cooking at home, I was blown away by how fun and hands-on it was. Chef Alexi was fantastic—she explained everything clearly, from rolling and cutting fettuccine to filling ravioli, and even the details of cooking the pasta just right. She was patient, thorough, and always ready to answer questions. Plus, there were other chefs walking around to offer help whenever anyone needed it, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. We cooked a lot of food—and even had enough to take home afterward, which was such a treat. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my birthday. I left with full hands (and a full stomach), new cooking skills, and some really great memories. If you’re looking for something fun, interactive, and delicious, I can’t recommend The Chopping Block enough.
  • It was a fun class. The instructor was knowledgeable and clear in her instruction. I would definitely recommend if you are new to gelli printing.
  • Great experience! Emily was an amazing teacher/host!
  • A great team/group activity! Shari and her partner were great at accommodating our group of eight. A very fun, easy, and fairly quick activity that everyone enjoyed.
  • Great intro into sewing basics. Very laid back and comfortable atmosphere.
  • Exceptional! The instructor was inspiring and being in the Chicago Botanic Gardens was inspiring and a perfect setting to hone my photo skills. I highly recommend this course and I will be taking the intermediate.
  • It was great Mike very good teacher Thank you
  • Poko was fantastic ! So much fun and so well facilitated.
  • Jyl is a real pro. Master carver, great teacher. Well-designed introduction to stone carving.
  • This was a delight! Michael Gaffney taught the class a ton of information in a clear and useful delivery. I had so much fun at the class, and I learned way more than I thought I would in just a few hours. Will definitely take another class.
  • Everything was excellent - from the CourseHorse team's responsiveness to our questions leading up to the trivia, to our host, Josh, and the live event. Everyone loved it. Even a few who were hesitant at first ended up really enjoying it.
  • i loved this course. the instructor was very informative and entertaining! definitely would recommend. please market these courses more!
  • Instructor communicated well and was knowledgeable.
  • Class was awesome!! We took the charcuterie class. 12/22/24. Mollie walked us through the tiramisu with us putting the finishing touches on our own. James was very knowledgeable and demonstrated how to make a mostarda and chicken liver pate. In the end we ate this food and was all absolutely delicious! They made the class very fun with lots of laughs and learned a lot. Will definitely be taking another class in the future.
  • I had a great experience in the screen printing class! Duff is a great instructor who is very knowledgeable and always kind and helpful. The environment he's curated there is very supportive and welcoming to everyone enrolled. I'd recommend Duff's class to anyone wanting to learn screen printing.
  • I had never done screenprinting before and Shari was a great teacher. Very knowledgeable and patient. My friend and I had a great time and would definitely do this class again. We both walked away with 2 fun shirts that we can't wait to wear!
  • Great instructor and information! Will be back!
  • Enjoyed learning the art of wet felting. Will definitely sign up for another class.
  • This was so much fun!! We learned so much and got to make our own Belgium beer. Hands on and informational. I’d recommend this course to anyone
  • We had so much fun and learned a lot! The chefs were so great and we are so excited to try the recipes at home! Thanks a million - we will be back.
  • Great class. Food and entertainment was great.
  • A great class and juyl gave us plenty if personalized attention. Would highly recommend.
  • Staff was warm, informative, and accepting - including those of us with no skills. Food was great. Definitely useful and applicable lessons learned.
  • I recommend this class at every level. The artist-teacher is excellent at managing students of different skills and making sure we're all safe and having fun. She is a brilliant thinker (who will explain how stonecarving is a uniquely reductive art, where you take something away instead of adding to), but is also so chill and welcoming to all kinds of students from all kinds of backgrounds. The stonecarving craft itself is a meditative experience, especially once you can wrap your mind around the fact that you're creating something new out of a natural material which is thousands of years old. But it's always creative, always active, always fun. The teacher's knowledge and artistry is everywhere, and the more you absorb the more you'll love the craft and the class. Look on the walls and floor and tables of her studio, ask her questions, and most of all, Listen to her stories. There is so much information, integrated in her life's work! In that one day I felt like I walked away with a month of stonecarving education. This is also the kind of class which will give more everytime you take it. I fully intend to take it again when I have the funds, and if I am ever wealthy somehow, I will go broke hiring Jyl to make beautiful things in marble.
  • The instructor was very knowledgeable and took their time explaining every aspect of the course. They definitely made you out feel comfortable. I look forward to future classes.
