Teaches at Bellydance Brooklyn
Sherine Khatoun is a professional Bellydancer of Middle Eastern heritage, born and raised in New York City. Sherine’s primary influence was by her Iraqi mother, a vocalist impassioned with mainly Egyptian music. An award winning dancer, in 2013, Sherine was selected as the 1st place winner of the Miami Bellyance Convention in the professional category. She won the 3rd place title in NYCairo Raks competition in 2014. Sherine was a featured instructor teaching a dance workshop at the Miami Bellydance Convention in 2014. She is an honored member of NYC’s classical and traditional Arab music and dance ensemble, Zikrayat (since 2008). She has collaborated with NYC’s theatrical world dance fusion company, The Dalia Carella Dance Collective. Sherine had the privilege of performing alongside internationally acclaimed group Alabina, for several music concerts in NYC. She performs at private events, which included high-profile parties for celebrities Mary J. Blige and her guests.
Sherine has danced since early childhood, beginning her formal training in 1996 in Ballroom dance, and 1998 in Middle Eastern dance, as well as acquainting herself with various dance genres. She holds a B.A. majoring in Dance at Hunter College. Sherine continues to deepen her training in various styles within the genre of Middle Eastern dance with extraordinary teachers from around the globe, some of which have included Elena Lentini, Jehan Kamal, Dalia Carella, Rayhana, Tamalyn Dallal, Bozenka, Roshana Nofret, Francesca, Mercedes Nieto, Amar Gamal, Zahra Suhair, Amel Tafsout, as well as Egyptian dance masters, Raqia Hassan, Tito Seif, Yousry Sharif, and Mohammed Shahin. Forever a student of dance & movement, Sherine shares her soulful & expressive artistry as both performer and devoted teacher.
