We will examine how comedy is useful to provide perspective and to meet journalism's core mission: to call bullshit. Every student will be expected to bring to class an example of comedy-as-journalism that informs the audience. We will examine the uses of various flavors of comedy -- satire, ridicule, irony -- and also examine the ethical boundaries. And we will hear from a comedy writer who writes about the news.
