What you'll learn in this ceramics class:

Students will learn about several Gothic building examples and the historical period architecture details by creating Gothic windows, tracery, buttresses, crenelation and more in clay.

This is the first half of a two-part course objective in which you will explore the three-dimensional form of period building architecture through clay sculpture. Then you will make molds of these original designs so that multiples can be created.

In September, we’ll launch Part 2: Advanced Architectural Ceramics: Gothic—a 10-week course to construct a building facade using all of the design elements created over the summer course.

Q&A

Q: Is the school disability-friendly?
A: Yes. The JCC is completely accessible. You take an elevator from the lobby down to L3, and the studio is in the hallway to the left of the elevator bank.

Q: Do you provide a letter of completion?
A: No
The school operates on a credit only policy and does not issue any refunds unless otherwise advised and approved by a program director, or only in the event that the school must cancel the program. The credit can be redeemed for any program (and most services) at the school, can be used by any family member on your account, and carries no expiration date.

For programs that meet fewer than 3 times: during the costs and booking commitments associated with one or two-shoot programs, the school regrets that they cannot offer any school's credit for programs, classes, or events that meet fewer than three times per programming season. Additionally, the school cannot be responsible for providing make-ups or issuing any credit for programs missed as a result of personal scheduling conflicts, illness, emergencies, or other circumstances beyond their control.

For programs that meet 3+ times: students may receive school's credit for withdrawal from a program when their cancellation request conforms to the timetable outlined below. There is a $15 processing fee for all transfers and cancellations. 50% school credit will be granted for withdrawal from a school program when a written request is received before the second class. After the second class, JCC credit cannot be granted. (however, students may transfer from one class to another of equal or lesser value if there is space availability and with the program director's approval.) All cancellation request must be submitted to CourseHorse at [email protected] Please allow three to four weeks for processing of your cancellation request and be mindful of the timetable described above.
