I loved the class so much. It was magical to transform liquid into solid and end up with something so beautiful. It really makes you appreciate what goes into an ordinary glass object. Our instructors were incredibly helpful and totally engaging.

The class was really interesting and made me want to learn more about glass blowing and glass making, but I didn’t love the instructor I had. The class participants were split up into three groups, each with their own instructor, and while the other two instructors seemed to take their time and give a lot of info and instruction, ours was not great. He seemed more interested in talking to other workers in the studio and kept walking away from us while we were handling the glass, then seemed to get annoyed when we made mistakes. It would’ve been helpful (and we probably would have had fewer mistakes) if he’d actually stayed with us as we were working, the way that the other instructors did. At one point I was heating glass, could see that I was having trouble and turned to ask for help, and then realized that the instructor was across the room, not paying attention to me at all. He seemed to get frustrated and impatient with us, which was a little uncomfortable and intimidating considering none of us had done this before, and frenquently grabbed equipment out of our hands to do things himself rather than explaining or talking us through it, or even practicing motions beforehand the way that the ther two instructors did. Our group finished a full 20 minutes before the other two groups, which also made it feel as though we’d been rushed through (and when were finished the instructor again left us to sit and do nothing while he went off to talk to other people in the studio). Overall it was a decent experience that made me want to learn more, but I think I’ll find another studio to take more classes at instead of going back to Brooklyn Glass.

The class was fun as a beginner. There were three instructors, only one instructor was super nice and super patient. The main instructor wasn’t very nice (kinda mean, and had attitude).

Not for me it's not the cleanest place for everyone to be blowing into a pipe with no option to clean it after each person. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly

I had high hopes for the class but came away dissatisfied to say the least. The class started 40 minutes late. The instructor I was paired with had no patience for beginners and showed it in his comments and demeanor. That's a problem in a beginners class; not all of us have joined the glassblowing cool kids clique (that filtered through the studio taking our instructors' attention) that is Brooklyn Glass. I also didn't understand the 1 hour "lunch break" in the middle of an 5 hour evening class. I was pretty put off by the whole thing and left when we broke for "lunch". If Brooklyn Glass is your choice for a beginner class, you should just take your $195 and throw it right in the furnace when you get there. You'll get the same value. After all that though, my paperweight was amazing.

Question from Anonymous
I am kind of grossed out about placing my mouth on a community pipe. Is there way to have a sanitary mouth piece for blowing?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! The school does sanitize the pipes between classes, but they have alcohol wipes if you'd like to wipe it each time before you blow. They can give you a handful of wipes to keep in your pocket, they will just ask that you dispose of the packets they come inappropriately.
