Class Description

Description

Discover the foundational knowledge needed to master Indian cooking through an in-depth exploration of spices and masalas. This hands-on class teaches you the nuances, sourcing, and storage methods that keep aromatic spices at their best, transforming them into expertly used ingredients in your kitchen. Learning to become a spice expert is essential for any cook seeking to truly understand Indian cuisine, as spices are the soul of every dish.

Throughout this interactive class, you will prepare dishes from scratch using premium organic ingredients, spices, and fresh produce. The experience is designed to be highly practical and immersive. Your instructor will provide continuous guidance while you cook alongside fellow students, sharing techniques, exchanging culinary stories, and building connections over a shared meal. Upon completion, you will receive digital copies of all recipes via email to reference whenever you need them.

This vegetarian-focused full-course experience features five distinct dishes, each highlighting different flavor profiles and cooking techniques. You will conclude the class with a sit-down dinner, enjoying the fruits of your labor while experiencing authentic Indian hospitality that delivers friendship, fun, and exquisite food.

Course Menu:

  • Okra Bhaji (okra with onion, ginger, and tomatoes): Fresh organic okras infused with a carefully balanced spice blend, creating a healthy yet flavor-packed side dish.
  • Baingan Bharta (smoked eggplant mashed in spices): Smoked eggplants combined with onions and garden herbs, this dish relies on herb flavors rather than an abundance of spices.
  • Chana Masala with Coconut (chickpea in onion, ginger, and garlic infused with spices): A nutritious pea dish enriched with coconut flavor for a refreshing taste that goes beyond the traditional preparation.
  • Vegetable Pulao (basmati rice infused with carrots, onion, cashews, raisins, and spices): A simple yet elegant rice dish that balances salty and sweet notes through careful spice blending and quality ingredients.
  • Pakora (onion fritters): Crispy appetizers made from chickpea flour, naturally gluten-free and designed to show you that authentic Indian cooking is accessible and straightforward.
