What you'll learn in this screen printing class:

Our unique workshops allow students to submit their own graphic art design by email 2 days prior to the workshop. We make a silk screen from their artwork. They use it to learn and print on fabrics at the workshop. Students can bring up to 5 fabric items to print on.

We provide a selection of inks, squeegees and other materials to print free - included in the cost of the workshop.

At the conclusion students take possession of their screen, the items they printed on and a Certificate of Completion.

Question from Woojin A.
Would I be allowed to bring a couple of more bags/t-shirts of my own to print? Also, when printing, are we using one color or allowed to use more than one color?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Woojin! Yes, students can bring a couple of bags/shirts extra and print on them. Recommended! Only the school ask it just be a few or in this case a couple of each.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
The screen that the school makes from a student's graphic design (they provide in advance) is used for printing one color during the workshop. The students get to keep the screen so on their own can use it later with any color ink they desire. If the student would like to print a few prints with a different color - wash screen - re-use with a new color, in this instance we will do what we can to accommodate the student i.e.

Question from Timothy C.
Could one potentially bring like a photocopy of a 4x6 photograph and count on being able to make prints it from this lesson?
Answer from anonymous
Great question. We generally accept art that is line art, hard black on a white background. Our thermal screens, react to shading and half tones as full black and that alters the photo, in unpredictable ways. Shading and half tones impact the screen and reverse polorization where dark and light reverse. This sounds like a good test for us to do here at Super Silk Screen with different photos, video and post results. Thank you for the question! Ian, Super Silk Screen
Question from Daniela T.
How many prints do we need to bring to class? Do the images have to be printed a specific/ special way?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! If you have a design, bring it as a regular black and white photocopy with the image not more than 6inches x 6inches. This means the graphic is one color - black on white regular copy paper. If attendees do not bring or have a graphics right now, the school have special carbon pen markers here that students can use onsite to create designs and then make screens from them and print on fabric. Hope this helps!
Question from Daniela T.
Are all materials included with the cost of the class displayed here or students are required to bring there own materials?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Daniela! Students are asked to dress casually. Students will receive a pamphlet covering basic fabric printing techniques and a list of many NYC arts suppliers. Students will also have a choice of printing a cotton T-shirt or bag at the workshop that they take home - the materials are provided at the workshop and included in the course fee.

This fabric printing class was very enjoyable, I highly recommend learning from Ian at his studio. You get the gratification of printing with your own screen on your own shirts right away which feels empowering, and it’s fun too!

I was so excited to learn about fabric printing. I was able to transfer an original design for "The Kong Show!" a comedy variety show that I coproduce, onto a silkscreen to create a fun t-shirt design. I was able to use the same design for a mouse pad and now I want to try sweatshirts and hoodies, too. Now I have great gifts that I can give to fans and friends. And the printing is of such a high quality that I have also sold t-shirts too. The instructor Ian Snow is very knowledgable and I enjoyed the workshop. I'm looking forward to the next one. I have several design ideas that I want to try. The best part of the course is that I now have my own screen of the design. This is an excellent course. Anyone from artists, to sports teams, to designers creating their own brand, could benefit from this course. I can see it as a fun kid's activity too. How cool it would be for kids to take a drawing made at home or at school and transform it into a t-shirt design!

The instructor was very friendly and informing. He offered more than one t-shirt and helped me to print on my own products. However, the class itself was not I was expecting. If you just want to have custom t-shirts, definitely go for this class. But if you want to learn more about screen printing and printing on fabric, I wouldn't recommend this class. The instructor basically did the whole process for me and I didn't learn much. The studio was little too small and wasn't very organized.

Per his request, I signed my 16 year old son up for this class as he wished to learn how to print his own designs on T-shirts. He came back home with a stack of printed shirts and an enthusiast review of the class: The owner/teacher allowed him to print more T-shirts than normally allowed and he spent 30 minutes longer with my son as well after class officially finished, so the additional T-Shirts could be printed. Very nice! I highly recommend this class -- for the quality of the teaching and outcome of product as well as for the friendliness and compassion of the owner/teacher. Thank you Super Silk Screen, Inc.!!
