Very cool class, I tried it on a whim but I had a lot of fun. Andy is one cool cucumber.

For future reference - please provide the suite number along with the floor # in email communique. - it was not apparent what room to find the class. Went to 10th floor, then had to go to 16th floor - then back down to Lobby, then back up after finally learning where the workshop was meeting. Caused unnecessary and unintended lateness. Thanks! Andy was amazing.

Very interesting class, having no background experience in acting or voice work. I really enjoyed myself and loved hearing from someone in the business discussing do's and dont's, tips and tricks.

Pretentious, obnoxious teacher ranted about the acting industry for the first hour. Was so mean to other students (who were actually good) doing their readings so I left. He verbatim said “your opinion doesn’t matter- mine is the only one that matters. You don’t know anything” not a constructive environment.

Andy Roth had a different approach to voice over from my other classes and I really appreciated his teaching style. He made it a safe environment with quite a few insights to the truth of this side of the business. He took his time with each student, assisting them to be their best selves while knocking down the walls we created around ourselves. His energy was fantastic and it made me want to continue pursuing this. Thank you for having this class be so available!

    Amazing Teacher!
  • Intro To Voiceover

Andy was a highly entertaining and supportive teacher in this course. This was my first time in a recording room, using proper equipment, and Andy did a fantastic job helping me overcome my first-time nerves and build confidence in my natural abilities. Fear = Future events already ruined! Ultimately, our class ran over by about 30 mins, which was fine, but I think the course would've been more optimal if the class size were reduced in half so that each student could practice reading at least two types of scripts. Within our class, we only had time to run through a single script.

Realistically, what's the upper age limit for getting a voice-over gig?

Hi Garee! Voice-over work doesn't really age-out. Certain jobs require older-sounding voices, certain jobs require younger sounding voices.

Question from Dessence
is this class good for radio background?
Answer from Riccardo J. Verified Student
They'll focus more on commercial but you can ask about Radio voice overs.
Answer from Dessence
For this same class. like if I go to this class and tell them my focus is on the radio, will they cater that with me?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hello, Dessence! The intro class covers the very basics of VO. If you’re looking for a specialized experience, you might need a different class. VO focuses on scripted work, so if you’re looking for a class that will teach you how to be a host or emcee, the school is not certain this will be what you need.

Question from YA A.
Is this more informative or do you get hands-on and actually use the mic? This will be my first class. I just want to know what to expect and if we get on the mic to act out and actually put in the work that Andy is teaching. I'm a little nervous.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! Yes! You will get time in the booth, and they'll send you a copy of everything you record! And don't worry about nerves! Andy is a warm and funny guy, his job as casting director is to put folks at ease so they get their best work done! Hope this helps!
