Experience the exhilaration of flying through the air with the greatest of ease. Our flying trapeze classes allow students to safely discover the thrill of this extraordinary circus art, regardless of fitness level or previous athletic experience.
First-time students begin with a comprehensive safety briefing led by one of our three qualified instructors. After learning essential safety rules and practicing takeoff techniques on the ground, you will watch a demonstration of your first trick, the knee hang. You will then climb the ladder and soon find yourself flying through the air, connected to safety lines from your first step on the ladder until you safely land and roll out of the net with both feet firmly on the ground.
Throughout the session, instructors provide continuous coaching on foundational flying techniques. The final thirty minutes focus on catching, where an instructor hanging from another trapeze will attempt to catch you mid-air. If you are still perfecting your technique, no worries; you can continue practicing without attempting a catch during these rounds.
Flying trapeze sessions are structured to maximize your time in the air. Our standard session lasts two hours with a maximum of ten students, ensuring personalized attention. Express sessions accommodate fewer participants with shorter timeframes. Introductory sessions may accommodate larger groups. Most sessions welcome all levels, allowing you to progress at your own pace and focus on tricks appropriate to your skill level.
Many students are amazed by what they accomplish in their very first session. As you return for additional sessions and master basic skills, you can progress to new and increasingly challenging tricks. Multi-week intensive flying workshops offer excellent opportunities to build advanced skills, connect with other flyers, and even perform your tricks. All sessions follow our structured flying trapeze curriculum, divided into six levels and encompassing flying, conditioning, and trampoline skills. This progression builds strength, endurance, aerial awareness, and control. You will track your advancement in the TSNY logbook, and instructors will provide encouragement and expertise to help you achieve each new goal.
What to Wear:
Socks that fully protect your toes are required, so avoid socks that separate the toes or slip off easily. We recommend snug-fitting athletic clothing. Yoga pants, running pants, tights, or leggings that cover the back of the knees will protect your skin during the knee hang. Wear a regular length athletic top or T-shirt so the safety belt sits comfortably around your waist. Loose, baggy clothing will get in your way, and hard hair clips and jewelry cannot be worn while flying.
Flying trapeze is an exciting and challenging activity that combines sport with performance art. It provides unique opportunities for fun, community, and personal growth.
