The history of coffee in Japan is very short, only about 100 years, compared to the United States and Europe. However, in that time it has developed its own unique culture which is now spreading overseas.
The founder of Blue Bottle Coffee, James Freeman, was impressed when he saw the Japanese Hand-Drip method. In 2002, this technique was transplanted to California. Now known as “pour-over” in the United States, Japanese Hand-Drip is gaining popularity all across the globe.
In 2017, Coffee Sakura’s Drip Bag Coffee was given the prestigious Omotenashi Selection Award, in recognition that this coffee is “overflowing with the unique charms of Japan that should be shared with the world.”
Drip Bag Coffee is fresh, convenient, and reasonably priced, making it an excellent alternative to K-Cups for coffee lovers working from home. All you need is hot water, a cup, and a drip bag, and you can enjoy delicious coffee in any setting.
Join Fumiaki Onishi, owner of Coffee Sakura, for a discussion on the differences in coffee culture in Japan and the United States, and how these distinct cultures influence each other and evolve. Learn the best way to prepare coffee using the Japanese Hand-Drip method, which you can try in your own home, and enjoy fresh coffee and coffee culture talk with Mr. Onishi and other participants. Preparation instructions for the event will be sent via email.
Tickets include three Sakura Coffee drip bags, imported from the coffee Sakura in Japan exclusively for this event. Each bag contains one cup’s worth of ground coffee with a built-in filter, so all you need is a cup and some hot water. The bags are deoxygenated to preserve the fresh ground aroma so you can enjoy the best cup of coffee for a long time.
Learn about Japanese Hand-Drip technique so that you too can prepare this delicious coffee anytime, anywhere!
