You will investigate the uses and purposes of specialized carving tools and master various carving techniques for creating both figurative and abstract stone sculptures. The primary goal is to complete an original carved sculpture while gaining hands-on experience in direct carving methods using soapstone, alabaster, or marble. You are welcome to bring preliminary sketches of your intended design to the first class session.
