Class Description

Description

*4-Hour Certified Barista Workshop: Coffee History, Theory & Hands-On Practice*

Step behind the bar and learn how great coffee is actually made. In this 4-hour intensive workshop you’ll move from the origins and culture of coffee into the science and technique that separate good drinks from excellent ones, then put everything into practice.

*Coffee history & context*

— How coffee traveled from Ethiopia to today’s specialty scene, key turning points, and why origin, processing, and roasting still matter at the bar.

*Theory that actually helps you*

— Extraction fundamentals, grind size, dose, yield, time, and temperature. We’ll cover espresso basics, milk science (proteins, fats, and temperature), and the variables that create balance, texture, and consistency.

*Hands-on practice*

— You’ll pull shots, steam and texture milk, and build classic espresso drinks. Expect guided practice on dialing in, pouring, and basic latte art (hearts, tulips, or similar depending on the group). You’ll get real time on the machine, not just a demo.

*Take-home materials*

You’ll receive documents that cover the full workshop content — history notes, theory summaries, extraction and milk guidelines, and practical reference sheets — so you can review and keep practicing after class.

*What you’ll walk away with*

A clearer understanding of why drinks succeed or fail

Practical skills you can use at home or on the job

Confidence with espresso and milk

Workshop notes and reference materials to take home

A workshop certificate from Brewed By Jose

*Who it’s for*

Beginners who want a solid foundation and intermediate home baristas or café staff looking to tighten their technique. No prior experience required — just curiosity and the willingness to get hands-on.

*Details*

4 hours, small group so everyone gets machine time

Led by an SCA-certified barista with 15+ years of café and training experience

You’ll work with professional equipment and fresh coffee

By the end you’ll understand the story behind the cup, the science that shapes it, and have practiced the moves that make consistent, balanced drinks — plus you’ll leave with the materials to keep improving. Perfect if you want to level up at home, train staff, or simply enjoy coffee with more intention.
