What you'll learn in this craft class:

A method of creating beautiful designs on glass by using images cut from books, magazines greeting cards etc. to make wonderful gifts and keepsakes on various glass objects such as vases, plates, jars, boxes, trays and more!

Working on the reverse side of the glass we cut and glue copies of images by using special glue, metallic paints, paper, metal leaf and markers, to enhance the images. The final piece is then lacquered so that it is both functional and decorative.

For the beginner students:

  • Create functional and decorative gifts
  • Learn design and layout
  • Learn to properly cut images from paper copies
  • Gluing techniques and cleaning glass
  • Create original designs
  • Back final piece in paper or paint
  • Lacquer for durability

For the intermediate students:

  • Create more complex designs
  • Use patterned paper effects
  • Use metal leaf for accents
  • Use markers and paints for special effects
  • Working on larger items

For the advanced students:

  • Use photos of family and keepsake documents but with instructor's approval, first.

All material for embellishing included. Glass is only provided by teacher for the 1st class. Student supplies glass going forward or can purchase some from teacher

NOTE: This is planned as a 3.5-hour single session class. If you're unable to finish the project, you can take it home or book an additional session to complete your works instead.

Question from anonymous
My question is the class mainly about cutting out paper and layering? Will the instructor cover round and rectangle pieces with a single sheet of color xerox images?
Answer from Darwin V. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Decoupage has taken a different level than the usual using innovative techniques. They teach beginner and advanced students. If you go to their Facebook page Art Under Glass Decoupage Artist on Google photos will come up of what they do. The photos on this page are of their work and students' work. The students pictured accomplished their pieces at one 3 1/2 hour workshop on an 8x8 inch plate. The paper does not break down at all and never has and they use 28lb. Hope this helps!

I am planning on taking the class. Could you please show the glass pieces that are available to work on? Thank you!! Irene
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Irene! You work on an 8x8 square glass plate or an 8x8 round plate which the school supply as part of the class. The plates come from Bed Bath and Beyond and you can go to their website. After the first class, you bring the glass or they can sell you the same plate for $5.00

Question from Carol K.
Hi, can these be made on a small scale that can then be perhaps bezel-set and used as a pendant or earrings?
Answer from anonymous
I teach the method for a plate not jewelry. You can take it there but you will encounter other problems beyond what I teach with glue findings etc
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Carol! The school teaches it on a glass plate. After that, you can try it for jewelry but may encounter different problems when mounting on metal. You will have to experiment on your own. They only teach it on the glass.

I had a great experience with Lucy learning her decoupage technique. She supplied all the materials and I left with a plate that I will enjoy having and will serve as a reminder of my learning experience. I hope to take a few more classes with her and then give it a try on my own. It's fun. Try it.

This class was awesome! The teacher went above & beyond to help me create such a unique piece of art. She was very welcoming. From the time I entered her home I felt good vibes. She even showed me her own works of art. She helped me fall in love with the artistic process. I got so much out of this class then expected.
