The Body in Psychotherapy

The question of how change happens lies at the heart of psycho-spiritual and sociopolitical theory. At its best, holistic learning engages this question through multiple ways of knowing, challenging students to discover for themselves which practices produce lasting change, and why. This course explores the role of the body in Holistic Psychology, specifically through the lens of Somatic Psychology, a highly-effective theory of change. By weaving insights from modern neuroscience, expressive arts, and contemporary Buddhism, Somatic Psychology offers a methodology that can help us feel both ourselves and others in new ways. We can become effective practitioners who move with depth and agility in the service of personal and collective transformation. Using a combination of theory and practice, the weekend will help participants learn to leverage the innate wisdom of the body in their personal and professional lives.
