Andy was such a great spirit! He helped me not just with technique but to express myself. Great class!
I enjoyed my class and the instructor was very friendly (although she spoke very quietly when we were all in the large group). Unfortunately our class started about a half hour after it was supposed to, but the instructor let the class go over to compensate.
Very disappointing. It was touted as a beginner/ or rusty artist coming back to draw. Instead, it was 'do your own thing' and the 'instructor' came around occasionally and made some suggestions and comments. There wasn't any 'teaching' or 'how to' - unless you count a few minutes of quick sketching and rapidly going over making shapes to get started. While I was inspired by sitting in the impressionist section of the museum (my favorite section), drawing one of those paintings seemed unbearably difficult - especially without more instruction and explanation. Had I not just completed an art class, I would have had NO CLUE as to how to get started.
There isn't a lot of information on where you're supposed to meet at the MET on the class description so I got lost and had to find the class. FYI, if you can't find the group, go directly to the group admissions desk and tell them you're looking for the class. They'll give you a vague idea of where the class is, then grab a map and head to the location. Before you enter the exhibit, make sure you ask one of the security guards if they have seen a group of people past by. I did this and I immediately found my class. In terms of my class, the instructor was helpful. This is not the sort of class where you have formal instructions. It's more like 5-10 mins of instructions and then you're encouraged to draw what you find interesting in the exhibit. We went to two exhibits and spent about an hr at each. We moved from the Egyptian exhibit to the American Impressionist exhibit. The instructor started off by explaining some techniques and what she wanted to highlight for us to focus on. She then went around to each person and would give insights and suggestions on how to improve. I've always had trouble with proportions, and shading. She was able to help me teach me some techniques of shading and contouring. In general, I thought it was a great, informal class for a beginner or someone who is looking to draw for fun or hobby.
Be sure to bring wine! I didn't realize we had to bring our own.
It was a great class. Amanda was very nice and informative. I would definitely recommend this class.
Minimal instruction and structure. If you can't just pick up a piece of paper and draw something, I would not advise taking this class and that is all that happens.
The instructor is very nice but this should not be considered a drawing class for beginners. You are supplied with a piece of paper and told to pick a sculpture and draw it. The instructor comes around for a few (3-5 per person) and gives you some suggestions with minimal guidance on how to draw something. There is very little structure. It might be more useful for a smaller group of people with some drawing experience.
I love the class so much. I have taken art classes at Art schools in NY . And I learned so much from this class then I ever learned . And it was such a peaceful environment
I enjoyed the class. I found the instructor knowledgeable, able to provide clear direction and give individual feedback.
