The Medicinal Uses of Essential Oils

This weekend with leading aromatherapist David Crow, one of the world’s foremost experts in botanical medicine and Ayurvedic and Chinese medical systems, will offer an in-depth training in the therapeutic uses of essential oils and the principles and practice of Aromatherapy.

This workshop can be of great benefit to all levels of aromatherapists, from beginning students to advanced practitioners. For those who took last year’s training, we will explore several new categories of oils whose use is rooted in Chinese and Ayurvedic medical teachings and delve in far greater depth into some rarely explored, esoteric aspects of Aromatherapy, including how lunar and solar influences manifest in plants’ energies; how fragrance affects consciousness, moods and biorhythms; and how to use olfactory meditation techniques to probe the essence of each oil.

Friday evening we’ll start by exploring how essential oils work (their absorption and effects on the glandular, respiratory, nervous and circulatory systems); the best ways to use essential oils safely and effectively (inhalation, baths, massage, etc.); the different therapeutic categories of oils; and how to build a home pharmacy to address common health needs.
On Saturday we’ll explore the most important anti-microbial and immune-enhancing essential oils and how to use them to build our resistance and address infections, as well as how to identify the best oils to use for atmospheric purification and respiratory conditions.

Sunday, we’ll delve into some more subtle aspects of essential oil use, exploring the long history of the most renowned aromatic treasures used for ceremony, ritual and spiritual benefits. We’ll look at: how frankincense, sandalwood, agarwood and palo santo can enhance concentration, memory, relaxation and meditation; the moodelevating, anti-inflammatory and skin healing properties of medicinal flower oils such as lavender, geranium and helichrysum; and the uses of exotic and rare perfume oils such as rose, jasmine, lotus and champa for enhancing health and happiness.
