Description
Class Level: All levels
Age Requirements: 18 and older
Average Class Size: 6
Teacher: Hannah Schultz

What you'll learn in this screen printing class:

In this class, students will learn how to print with Procion dyes on fabric instead of inks. Using dye printing pastes instead of inks allows for vibrant and transparent colors without the "sit-on-top" effect that happens when printing with ink. Students will learn about different dyes available for fabric, different thickeners, how to prepare the dye print paste, how to print with it on fabric, and the different ways to set it.

Please Note:
  • All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision.
  • This One Day Class does not come with Open Studio time.
Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime!

Question from veronica
Hi, it says, "Students will learn about different dyes available for fabric, different thickeners". Does this mean you will work with other inks (plastisol or waterbased) besides Procion? I'm a bit unclear. Thanks!
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Veronica! This class does not deal with traditional waterbased or Plastisol inks as it is focused on using natural dyes. Natural dyes need to be thickened in order to be able to use them as screen printing inks. The instructor uses all sort of printing techniques in her practice so students can ask about other processes if they wish. Hope this helps.

Question from Paula B.
Hello, would you be able to open an exception for mom and daughter to sign up for class together? She's 13, well-behaved and loves doing artistic things.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Paula! The instructor said it's okay as long as the teen attends class with her mother or another adult. Hope this helps!
