In this Intermediate level wax carving class we will explore more in depth model making techniques, continuing on from the Wax I course.
Students will create either a ring or a pendant of their own design, creating a setting for a cabochon gemstone in the wax model. Various carving techniques will be covered, delving deeper into design transfer, layout, carving, and build-up. We will look at both bezel and prong styles of setting as an option. We will discuss gemstones on the first day of class, and students can then purchase and bring a gemstone of their choice that fits the parameters of the project.
We will also learn more about different types of wax, types of molds available for replication of designs, and how to determine weights and costs in different materials. Students will have the opportunity to price the cost of their model in their choice of metal, before it is sent for casting.
We will cover complete casting clean up, and setting of the gem for a finished piece.
Prior wax carving experience – our Intro to Wax course is highly recommended.
Fee: $450 + tool list for purchase, and fee for casting (priced individually based on weight and student’s choice of metal)
We understand that flexibility is important, and will do our best to accommodate within reason and our capacity.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
