  The Intro to Gold (Gold I) was just what I wanted to learn about using gold as a jewelry material. I had prior experience with making working silver and brass into rings, but was curious how to work with gold as a unique material. The methods of jewelry-making are many but I appreciated the classical techniques that this class engaged. The projects touched upon soldering, forming and bezel making for a stone of our choice. So I learned a little about gems as well. It will take more than one class to make what I want though, so I’m signing up for Gold II!

  This is the best place to go for great handmade beautiful pieces of Jewelry in all of Williamsburg! Also, if you want to learn how to make jewelry of your own, this is a great place to take personalized classes! Michael and Hiryoko are both super talented and super nice people!! So treat yourself, or someone else, and go!! : )

  We had a great experience at our private gold recycling class. Sue is a great teacher who provided the right balance between giving direction and letting us guide our own project. She also was very responsive to emails prior to the class which helped us come in with a plan. Would highly recommended.

  The individualized teaching was superb (thank you, Jeanette) and the environment was wonderfully supportive. You work at your own pace. You learn by doing and by repetition when watching other students undertaking similar processes. It was truly intensive and I learned so much. Thank you again!

  JAI is really a jewel in NYC. Jeanette, who is the chief instructor and proprietor, has found her vocation ( aside from being an unbelievably talented goldsmith) in teaching and mentoring students, with an endless supply of patience and encouragement. She never loses her cool, no matter how many times she has to repeat herself; she is always funny and upbeat, and she understands that students progress at their own pace. Also, she has filled her staff with jewelers/instructors who are like in spirit-- patient and clear. All her teachers will always stop and answer your question; everyone is very kind. The studio has a nice mix of professional jewelers who sell their work and students learning the craft. Jeanette seems to attract people who are really nice, friendly people and helpful as well. It is a very supportive space, which is important for beginning students who need to be around accomplished jewelers but dont want to feel intimidated. The studio is extremely well-equiped, and well maintained, and feels spacious. Melissa, who is the receptionist and office administrator as well as a professonal jeweler, is unbelievalby helpful with anything you need to know. Both Savannah and Valerie ( other instructors I have had ) are top notch. I would give JAI 10 stars if I could. Great place; you cannot go wrong here.

  This was brilliant fun, and i learnt such a lot- admittedly I came in with ZERO knowledge, but it didn't matter at all- we were patiently walked through each stage of each process to make a stacking ring, giving us 3 attempts at stone setting, each one a great learning experience. Teachers were ever present but didn't hover. With only 4 students, we had plenty of help if we needed it, and not if we didn't. When we finished our rings we were given carte blanche to design and work on our own designs. I loved the attention to doing things right, and getting in to good habits to try and achieve the best results. I will definitely be going back for more- it's a soothing, absorbing task and you end up with something unique, hand- made and lovely to take home at the end. I have no hesitation in recommending JAI. Bravo!

  The summer intensive was a great experience. There was a first project that all the participants did, then everyone made their own projects. With four instructors, there was always someone available to help. The atmosphere was upbeat and collaborative, and the instructors are excellent and patient. In addition to the price of the class, I spent about $300 on extra tools and materials.

  This was a fantastic course. I learned a lot about how to take 24 gold, alloy it to 22k and 20k. I'm now not hesitant to work with gold. The instructors are very knowledgeable and were extremely helpful. The studio is clean and very easy to work in.
