This beginners drawing class is perfect for all levels, total beginners included! Everyone can draw, including YOU! With a professional NYC artist and inspiring educator as your guide and teacher, you will learn the most valuable drawing techniques that are fundamental to drawing, including composition, shading, mark making, line quality, and your own personal style.
Feel inspired by the beauty and inspiration of world-famous paintings, sculpture and architecture in New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art art as YOU:
- Receive tailor-made, encouraging one-on-one expert art instruction in drawing
- Feel inspired to create drawings with the MET museum’s life-size sculptures, portrait busts, master drawings and paintings, and interior spaces such as Egyptian Temples and views of Central Park as your muse

- Explore, learn and practice drawing class techniques, such as: composition, shading, depth, line, dimension, pencil mark making, and a variety of subject matter including landscapes, figure drawing, still life and more

PLEASE NOTE:
- Museum admission is included in the cost of this art class. The Art Studio NY will purchase and provide weekly entry tickets into the MET for all students of this drawing class, please be on time to receive your weekly ticket.
- Drawing paper of any size that you are comfortable carrying (Please do not purchase newsprint)
- Drawing pencils: 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, and 4B
- Kneaded gum eraser (looks like a gray gum-like square)

Refund Policy
Class tuition is neither non-refundable nor transferable. No refunds will be issued after registration and payment. In case of a Medically Certified illness, a credit will be issued after receipt of your physician’s documentation. The value of the credit will be for the balance of the remaining class sessions with an additional deduction of a $75 registration fee. Credit may be used towards any offerings at The Art Studio NY for up to 12 months.
If after your first class you are dissatisfied with the quality of your course, a written note must be submitted within 3 business days after your first class. After receiving your note, refund of class tuition will be reviewed by our staff. If a refund is granted, processing of refunds requires 8-10 weeks.
Course Cancellations
Although course cancellation at The Art Studio NY is quite rare, The Art Studio NY reserves the right to cancel classes or change instructor assignments and makes every effort to notify students in advance. If enrollment goals are not met, a course may be cancelled up to 48 hours before the first scheduled class. In the event of cancellation, a full refund or credit is granted. On occasion, a course start-date will be pushed back if enrollment goals are not met. In this instance, you will receive a credit for the price of the class that did not take place.
Please note that there will be NO exceptions to this under any circumstances, and that neither CourseHorse nor The Art Studio NY will bend on this policy.
MAKE-UP POLICY
Unfortunately, The Art Studio NY does not offer any makeups for classes missed. However, if the student wants to get the most from the course and the absence, they can tell the instructor when they will be absent and the instructor can provide some guidance on exercises to practice while away.

Beginner's Drawing at the MET
The class at the MET with teacher Jordin was wonderful. Jordin was very informative and patient with any requests from the students. It was also great to visit new galleries throughout the course to learn more about the Museum while learning new skills.

It was wonderful to take the opportunity to draw, with a group at The Met. The group were very warm , and welcoming. It’s extremely intimidating to pull out your pencils and start to draw in such an esteemed location. Claire our instructor, eased us into the process, starting with blind contour drawings. The use of abstraction, is a great tool to ease expectations and give you the confidence to continue working and practicing your mark making. The 2 hours flew by, and some people decided to stay and continue the process after the class had finished. Thank you Claire for the encouragement and advice. I would highly recommend this class.

I took the Beginner's Drawing at the MET class in August 2022 and really loved it. Just in 4 2 hour classes, we learned the basics of drawing figures, faces, different drawing techniques, and tricks. Our instructor - Jourdin - was amazing, so patient, so encouraging, extremely knowledgeable, and easygoing. Just the whole experience of drawing at MET is incredible. You finally have time to look at the art pieces you like for a long time, attempt at drawing them, get the feedback and support you need as well as admiring looks of people who pass you by. I highly recommend this class.

Really enjoyed the class. Good intro to drawing and inspiring place to learn from the Masters in an amazing museum. Due to class size, when everyone attends class, you get little one on one time but some classes I got to spend a lot of time with the instructor who was very personable and knowledgeable. Definitely worth doing for overall experience.
