Founded in 2007 to serve the urban community, we partner with public middle and high schools to offer credit bearing academic programs, internships, mentoring, and college readiness. Our youth development platform uses sailing, boat operation, and boat building to further academic skills and instill the qualities of character necessary for college and career success. We also serve the broader community through affordable marine education and recreation for individuals, groups, schools, businesses, and families.
Hudson River Community Sailing develops leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through sailing education and provides maritime education and recreation to the community at large.
This was a nice intro to sailing and I hugely enjoyed my morning on the Hudson. Very very basic intro but very enjoyable
Excellent teacher and fun, informative experience.
It was a great time to be out on the water, as evening came around and the atmosphere fell into a calmer state. The sailing instructor knew his stuff and gave each of the five of us a chance to be the captain. I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested in sailing on the Hudson. It's a challenging environment because of the variety of experiences you'd have there sailing small craft. Sailing is magic. It really takes you into a new dimension. And it's such a natural business: you, the water, the wind, and your boat.
I think the class was informative and a wonderful intro to sailing. Our skipper, Christopher, was patient, kind and well informed. He seemed ready, able and willing to share his experience with us.
Instructor was fantastic even though I mixed up the times and arrived late. Really fun and informative, hands-on class. Highly recommended
it was great class!
Wonderful !! From beginning to end. I think I may have fallen in love with sailing !
The Intro To Sailing was a very pleasurable experience for a semi-experienced sailor like myself, who was really craving some time out on the water. The skipper and first mate - Rebecca and Sasha - were super nice, friendly and fun. But this was more like a brief excursion than an actual class. True, Rebecca gave every attendee a shot at manning the tiller and we were all free to participate in trimming the sails. I had a good time but I didn't feel I learned anything, except that the Hudson River Community Sailing club exists and has locations there in Inwood and at Chelsea Piers and that anyone can join and there are requirements vis-a-vis sailing skill to become a skipper who may take out a boat.
Had a great time with down to earth people, skilled instructor and great view. Highly recommended for anyone who is looking for a low key and simple intro into sailing.
The class exceeded expectations. Johnathon was an experienced instructor who kept everything in control and allowed all of the students to handle the ship as much as possible. The class was kept small and high engaging. Watching the sunset from Hudson river while listening to helicopters marked a perfect evening. Highly recommend the class to anyone who is even remotely interested in learning about sailing.
