Description

Join our staff boat building instructor to learn half hull model carving. In shipbuilding, half hulls were originally used by boat builders to study and refine the hull shape of a vessel prior to full size construction. Students will carve a half hull of their own from the lines drawing of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.

Starting with the layout and planning of the model, you'll practice precision skills of accuracy and measurement, practice hand tool technique, and learn how to cut, fit and fasten the parts, resulting in a finished project. To build your model, you'll learn how to use some of the basic power shop tools like a band saw, as well as hand tools like the chisel, block plane, gouge and rasp.

All tools and materials required are included, but you are welcome to bring your own carving tools. No prior woodworking experience is required to take this class.

Refund Policy

Full refunds less a 5% processing fee will be offered for cancellations that occur 32 days or more before a program's registration deadline (if no deadline, the first day of the program).
Cancellations between 31 and 9 days will be offered a 50% refund or credit toward another class.
Cancellations after the registration deadline or within 8 days of the first day of class (whichever comes first) will not be refunded.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
