Participants will work collaboratively as a unified team, building the Kingston Pram rowboat from its initial construction stages through to completion. This is a truly unique educational opportunity that allows you to work alongside a master woodworker and experienced shipwright whose professional background includes significant participation in the restoration of the historic sloop Woody Guthrie and the celebrated sloop Clearwater. Our instructors will guide the team throughout the spring break week, teaching essential teamwork and problem-solving skills necessary to successfully construct a seaworthy small boat from raw materials.
During this intensive course, you will build a compact rowboat featuring ideal proportions and structural elements perfectly suited for beginning boat builders. The finished boat is small enough to be transported on top of a vehicle, making it practical for personal use and exploration. Boat specifications include the following dimensions: Length, 8 feet 1 inch; Beam (maximum width), 3 feet 11 inches; Height, 1 foot 2 inches; Draft (depth below waterline), 4 inches. Upon successful completion of the course, you will have the opportunity to purchase the boat you constructed for the cost of materials only, which is approximately 650 dollars.
