In this 4-day class instructor Chaz Corallo will guide students as they construct a wooden stand up paddleboard. Each student will start with a preassembled frame kit ready for board construction. They will build up the rails from bead and cove strips, add a deck, install hardware, and shape the board. By the end of the class each board will be ready for fiberglassing and finishing.
Included in the seesion is instruction and demonstration of the fiberglassing process. Glassing the boards can take an additional 1-2 days and can be done as added extra after the workshop is complete. Students will explore basic board design concepts, the application of steam to manipulate wood into shapes, adhesive applications, elements of edge tool work, glassing and application of epoxy, and use of traditional hand tools. Some initial prep work will be done by boat school staff in advance of the class in order to streamline the experience.
