What you'll learn in this sewing class:

In this 12-hour course, students will learn the essential skills of sewing: how to use a sewing machine, basic pattern reading and sewing construction while creating a simple A line tank top.

Please Note:

  • All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision.
  • Wear clothing that can get messy!

For the Weekend Intensive Class:

Students have access to Open Studio time for free for up to a week after the class ends, to put their new knowledge to practice.

Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime!

Is this class good for total beginners?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there, this class is great for total beginners! The class starts off with the basic sewing machine and stitch techniques and goes through the entire process of sewing a garment from how to cut out the pattern to sewing the garment. No previous experience with sewing is necessary. Hope this helps!

This course taught me the basics of prepping a sewing machine, and high level teachings on how to cut fabrics and patterns, and how to sew various types of seams. I think 4 classes is not enough to really internalize all new concepts but I think I've got the sewing machine basics down, which is really what I went for!

This class was amazing. I learned a lot. We made a blouse on sample material. It was great. It's a little overwhelming since you learn a lot of techniques. How to use sewing machine and then how to make a something out of the pattern. I recommend for beginners and intermediate.

I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot! I had a little bit of experience on a sewing machine, but with no formal training, so it was great to learn what tools to use, how to measure and cut, and how to sew certain types of seams. I liked that we got to do a full project (a tunic dress based on a pattern) after a few hours of learning basics. Our instructor Amelia was so positive and enthusiastic! She was encouraging and fun. We did run into the challenge that some of the sewing machines were temperamental, which meant some people fell behind, or the class was held up a little while the machines were fixed. That would be my only point of feedback for TAC to improve future workshops. Other than that, it was an excellent weekend, and I would highly recommend to others looking to learn sewing machine fundamentals!
