In this investigative class, we will explore nontraditional pate de verre method called “freeze and fuse” and its applicaton in the hot shop. By making silicone moulds of low relief patterns and designs and using them to make freeze and fuse powder wafers, students will learn new methods of mark making in the hot studio. Together, we will explore different applications of the freeze and fused forms in the hot shop including encasing, rolling up, and surface placement. This intensive course is made for students with introductory glass experience who want to incorporate kiln form techniques into their hotshop practice.
