Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this fiction class:

Interested in learning how to write fiction? An experienced fiction writer who wants to hone her craft? Want to take a writing class but not ready to workshop a story? An avid reader who wants to know how fiction is created?

Newbies and long-term writers are welcome in this session to explore how authors use craft techniques to create exciting prose stories. Participants will complete at least two writing exercises—the first a warm-up writing prompt and the second an exploration of an excerpt from a short story, novel, or poem, then emulating the author’s techniques. At the end, participants can volunteer to share the writing they did during the class and receive positive feedback from peers and the instructor.

Not the typical writing workshop, this session will give you inspiration for writing, plus the knowledge to craft better stories.

May 17th - The Art and Poetry of Description: We'll go outside fiction writing and use visual art and poetry to learn about, inspire, and practice effective description in prose.

May 31st - Stories That Aren't Stories: Letters, help wanted ads, PowerPoint slides . . . In this session, we'll explore how different forms can be used to told stories. Learn to go outside the boundaries of standard narrative prose and write fiction that innovates.
School Notes: OUTSIDE FOOD & DRINKS ARE NOT ALLOWED. QED has coffee, tea, soda, beer & wine plus snacks and pre-made wraps and sandwiches available.
