The Voiceover with Sharon Washington

Recording voiceover work both in-studio and from your own home is one of those unique side-hustles that is lucrative, flexible, and even artistically fulfilling! 

In this 2-day workshop, veteran actor Sharon Washington will share the technical and acting-based skills necessary to successfully record voiceover for commercial and audiobook work, and have you apply these techniques to your own recording for in-class feedback and guidance.

This workshop might be for you if you:

• Are interested in breaking into the world of voiceover work. 
• Have voiceover experience, but need help navigating the quickly-evolving industry and keeping up with new technology.

In this workshop you will:

• Discuss the voiceover industry and new approaches to voiceover recording in response to new, in-home technology.
• Explore the voiceover from an acting point of view, with a focus on quickly finding truth in any text you are handed.
• Learn the basics of microphone technique, finding your individual voice, exploring vocal range, responding to direction, and bringing the copy in “on time.”
• Familiarize yourself with the basic technical requirements of self-recording and editing.
• Be given copy to record on your own (even with just an iPhone - no special recording equipment necessary) between classes.
• Share and discuss this assignment in the second class, followed by on-the-spot reading and recording in class that emulates a live audition situation.

By the end of this workshop you will have:

• An understanding of the current voiceover industry.
• The techniques and confidence needed to audition for voiceover work, and the skills to successfully record them using equipment you likely already own.
