Learn the science and history behind the amazing animals, the stories of the adventurers that collected them, and the dirty little secrets that make AMNH like no other museum on earth!

On a 2 hour Museum Hack adventure at the American Museum of Natural History, you should expect:
  • Exciting stories, awesome facts, and juicy, behind-the-scenes gossip
  • Interactive group activities
  • A fast pace

Important Thing to Note:

Regarding the meeting place for our tours at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), starting immediately, students will need to enter the American Museum of Natural History via the main Central Park entrance. Once inside the rotunda, they need to make a right to meet their guide and the rest of their group at the tail end of the long-neck Barosaurus.

Note:

Our public Un-Highlights tours are now 16+. Families who show up with children under 16 on tour will be asked to leave the tour with a full refund.

Refund Policy

No refunds.

  • We’re happy to reschedule any public tour ticket purchases as long as we have 3 business days notice.
  • Once we’re inside 3 business days to your tour, we’re unable to accommodate any changes to your public tour tickets.
In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel at the last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non-refundable registration fee.

We have been to the Museum of Natural History many time over the years, but really enjoyed hearing the inside scoop about some of the most popular attractions. Lindsay, our vivacious guide, made it lively and fun!! Who knew where that huge meteorite was found and how it made it to that hallowed building in NYC in the mid 19th venture? And the hilarious prank played on the poor guy responsible for adhering the enormous blue whale to the ceiling in the oceanography hall? You don’t forget these stories.

Had a fantastic time touring the Natural History Museum, learning all of the quirky facts you don’t get from the plaques. Our tour guide, Dustin, was equally knowledgeable as he was entertaining. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun date idea or way to spend the afternoon. It’s 2 hours, with little to no breaks, so wear comfy shoes.

The tour was great and informative! My tour guide Zak was an absolute riot and full of fun and interesting facts. We only had time to talk about so many objects/artifacts but I was impressed with the number of exhibits we covered! I've been to the National History Museum at least 8 times in the past but I must say going this time on the tour must have been my favorite visit.

Question from Rochelle S.
We are interested in going on the Hack the American Natural History Museum in New York. I have two questions: 1. What makes this tour special? 2. I have a son who is 15 1/2. Can he go on this tour?
Answer from Rochelle S. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
The school's tours are special because they offer a unique take on the museum experience, focusing on the human stories behind the pieces! They do require guests to be at least 16 years old to come on our public tours, as they are aiming to craft an experience for adults to enjoy with other adults. They are happy to welcome kids of any ages on their private tours at the museum! If this is something you are interested in learning more about.
