Acrylic pour painting, also known as flow art, is a mesmerizing form of abstract expression that combines fluid paint consistency with color chemistry to produce organic, free-flowing compositions that are unique every single time. In this camp, students layer acrylic paints of varying viscosities into a cup, then pour and tilt the surface to let colors react, blend, and bloom into unexpected patterns.
Students will develop an understanding of color theory as it applies to pour painting, experiment with a range of texture-creating techniques, and learn how to properly prepare a canvas for best results.
- Practice techniques including "the bloom effect," ribboning, flip-cup, and dirty pour
- Experiment with different paint mediums and additives to create varied textures and chemical reactions between colors
- Complete a series of acrylic flow paintings that demonstrate the range of techniques explored during the camp
