One River’s Digital Painting program for students grades 6th to 12th utilizes traditional painting mediums such as acrylic, oil, ink and watercolor and applies traditional techniques to a virtual canvas. Using Adobe Photoshop and Wacom tablets, students learn to use different digital brushstrokes while understanding visual characteristics such as transparency, symmetry, texture, embossing and creating 3D illusions.
The option to undo brush strokes and other actions, permits a more spontaneous, intuitive way of working than is possible in traditional painting. Students use Wacom tablets and stylus pens to create fluid linework. Painting projects include street art painting, novel illustrations, fantasy landscapes, photo-paintings, reimagined still lifes, digital sketching and using text in composition.
