Our one-week Short Film Intensive is a comprehensive introduction to the art of collaborative filmmaking, exploring:
- Ensemble building and group creative process
- Script analysis and interpretation
- Film and filmmaking terminology
- Writing for the screen
- Acting for the camera
- Directing and staging
- Editing and post-production basics
Students work together as an ensemble to create an original short film from development through completion. Every student will have the opportunity to write, act, direct, and serve in crew roles throughout the week.
These camps are designed to reward repeat enrollment. Students returning for additional sessions will work on new material and encounter new creative tools, making each week of participation a genuinely distinct experience.
Students are asked to observe their classmates' work and offer objective feedback based on what shifted after direction was given. Developing this kind of attentive observation is a cornerstone of The Barrow Group's approach and is essential to the learning process.
This class introduces students to The Barrow Group's distinctive approach to storytelling and the same tools used by our professional adult actors. We believe that acting is fundamentally an act of play, and that students thrive most in an environment built on relaxed, positive reinforcement.
The Barrow Group School stands apart from many other New York City studios because every instructor has completed an intensive, multi-year teacher training program specific to The Barrow Group's method. When your child studies with us, they are working with a deeply trained educator.
Logistics: Lunch break is from 12:30 pm to 1:15 pm. Tween students remain on site during the break and should bring their own lunch or arrange for delivery. Tween campers do not have the option to leave the building. A full intensive syllabus will be sent two to three weeks before the start date.
