Our one-week Short Film Intensive gives teen students a real, comprehensive experience of filmmaking from the inside. This is not a passive class; students write, act, direct, and serve as crew, working as a full collaborative ensemble to create original short films from scratch.
The curriculum covers ensemble building, script analysis, film and filmmaking terminology used on professional sets, writing original material, on-camera acting technique, directing, and editing. By the end of the week, students will have experienced every key role in the filmmaking process and come away with a genuine understanding of how films are made.
No prerequisites or audition required.
Daily Schedule:
- 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM: Class
- 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM: Lunch Break
- 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Class
Teen students (ages 14 to 18) have the option to stay at TBG or leave the building during the lunch break with parent approval.
A detailed, intensive syllabus will be sent to enrolled students two to three weeks before the start date.
This intensive uses The Barrow Group's specific approach to storytelling, introducing students to the same tools and methods our adult professional actors work with. In our teen programs, students are also asked to observe their classmates' work and give structured, objective feedback on what specifically changed from one take to the next. This observational practice is a critical component of how The Barrow Group approach is taught and internalized.
