In this engaging sewing and fashion design class, children explore their creativity while developing genuine hands-on skills in fabric selection, hand sewing, and garment construction. The curriculum is structured thoughtfully by age group, so every student is working at a level that is appropriately challenging and consistently achievable, whether they are picking up a needle for the very first time or building on some prior exposure to textiles and craft.
The youngest students, ages three and four, begin their sewing journey with tactile, exploratory no-sew projects. Under the warm and patient guidance of our instructors, they decorate paper fashion dolls with fabric pieces, create simple clothing and costumes for their own dolls and stuffed animals, and explore a wide variety of textures, colors, and fabric types. The goal at this stage is to build fine motor control, develop a genuine love for working with materials, and lay the sensory and creative foundation that will support more advanced work in the years ahead.
Students in the five to six age group step into the world of real hand sewing, learning basic stitches under close instructor supervision and completing their first independently constructed small projects. Students in the seven to eight and nine to eleven groups advance further still, taking on increasingly complex designs. They learn to read simple pattern instructions, cut fabric with precision, sew seams by hand, and construct actual wearable garments including skirts, simple tops, and personalized accessories that reflect their own growing sense of style.
Throughout the six-week program, students receive individualized attention and encouragement from instructors who are passionate about making the experience positive, empowering, and genuinely fun. By the final session, every student takes home items they made entirely on their own, a source of real pride and a tangible demonstration of what focused creative learning can produce.
