Birdwatching Basics (Remote Live)
I thought the Birdwatching Basics class was excellent, and just right for a newcomer to bird watching. The instructor was very enthusiastic and engaging. There were a lot of fun and interesting facts, as well as great bird photos, in the PowerPoint presentation. The class was not the full 3 hours (it's meant to be a lecture followed by an actual birdwatching walk, but the latter could not occur given the virtual setting), but I think it was just the right amount of time - I'd suggest the listing on CourseHorse be updated to reflect that it's more like 2 hours. I did take my own birdwatching walk afterward and I felt like I was able to see and hear with new eyes and ears after this class! -
Birding in NYC
The speaker, Heather Wolf, gave a wonderful presentation on birding in NYC. She came very well prepared and very organized which enabled her audience to stay focused and interested; never once did my eyes glaze over. By using the laptop and projector screen she showed us many of her photographed birds in the wild. She showed us how to use the many valuable tools on some particular websites such as ebird.org, brooklynbirdclub.org and allaboutbirds.org -- websites I never new existed! If you love birds and want to learn about them and go on birding tours, etc., these sites provide lots of information. Ms Wolf also talks about bird sighting hotspots in NYC and even goes through a list of what you need to help find and spot birds. She provided us with the names of some of the best birding binoculars to use, she came with some examples of great field guides for us to peruse, and she gave tips on how to spot some of the more elusive birds. It was an excellent presentation!!
