Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this beginning weaving class:

In this class, you’ll learn how to make a simple DIY loom and create a mini weaving. You’ll learn everything you need to know to design and create your own modern, abstract, geometric, colorful, fringed, organic, anything-you-want amazing weavings.
You’ll learn the 411 of basic weaving stitches, including how to incorporate tassels, fringe, and wool roving to create tons of texture. Students will explore how to plan, set up and begin a piece, and you’ll have time for some leisurely weaving with help from the instructor.

Registration includes the materials necessary to make a mini wall hanging, including a birchwood loom from Purl & Loop (a $32 value) as well as a variety of yarns and wool roving.

If you would like to bring a little of your own yarn, especially if you have colors you know you want to use in your weaving, go for it. Bulky yarns work best for this project.

We will provide enough yarn for everyone, but if you have anything special you want to incorporate, feel free to bring it along.

Great class, easy to understand the technique. The teacher is very adventurous, so bring odd materials to play with and she will show you how to use different mediums other than yarn.

The mini loom was really mini. More mini than I thought it'd be. Also, the available yarns only differed in color. I wish they had varied in thickness or patterns, I know other classes do.

This workshop was a great introduction to loom weaving, and I'm so happy I took it. I was really inspired to get more involved in weaving projects and plan to continue exploring the medium. I thought the instructor did a good job of demoing everything, the one thing I wish is that she would have incorporated a few more weaving techniques about how to do some more advanced knots etc. I thought there was a great assortment of yarns to work with, and now have my mini loom to explore more projects. I was really happy with my overall results!

A fun class in a beautiful studio! It was like crafting with friends on a nice fall day. Very relaxed, but I learned a lot and felt inspired to keep creating when I left!

It was a relaxed friendly atmosphere. The instructor was very patient and explained everything well. It might be helpful to know that this particular class was taught by someone with textile experience but not specifically with weaving. She admitted that most of the stuff she was teaching us, she learned herself via youtube videos. Which is totally fine, the class was still worthwhile and perfect for a beginner like myself.
