Learn the tradition of Shona stone cutting. Come on a trip to a local stone quarry , find a natural stone that speaks to you. Learn to listen to the ringing as you carve .
Eventually this will bring you into a rhythm with stone. This is where the stone will open up and show you all the possibilities and directions to go, then the artist begins to execute a piece of art that is unplanned and outside of what the imagination could produce, creating Contemporary Shona stone sculptures.
“Shona Sculpture is perhaps the most important art form to emerge out of Africa in this century".
Studio time during specified hours is included in the class fee, along with one 3 hour class per week with the instructor. Basic tools are included in the class fee. But students will need to purchase their own stone. (Usually between $35-$150) All levels of skill are more than welcome.
Classes are non-refundable but may be transferred to another date if you notify us 11 business days prior to the start of class. Reschedule requests that are within five days of the class will incur a 10% cancellation fee.
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
