Age Requirements: 18 and older
Average Class Size: 10
Teacher: Matt White

What you'll learn in this clay class:

In this online course, students will be sculpting an actual size self-portrait in clay, beginning with an anatomically correct block-in of the primary and secondary volumes of the head, and advancing to a more specific likeness of oneself, through meticulous observation and measuring techniques. Important proportions of the skull, major planar structure, boney landmarks, and superficial anatomy will be discussed by the instructor. The use of mirrors, photo reference and calliper measurements will enable the student to develop block-in structure to an accurate representation of themselves in three dimension.

Weekly lectures and demonstrations, as well as individual and group critiques will be supplemented by the video portion of the course. Students will be expected to complete their work outside of class time, working along with pre-recorded videos by the instructor.

  • Le Beau Touche Green 2lb x10

This was a great class! Great to have two teachers, so that everyone could get guidance. Definitely recommend and will be taking it again! Do wish it was a little smaller in terms of the number of students. But otherwise, I learned so much from Jesse and Cynthia, they were amazing. They each have there own way of doing things, which at first can be a bit confusing. But in the long run, I think it's really beneficial because you get two different methods & two different design eyes to guide you. I learned so much in this class and was shocked at how much progress I made in the end!

This is a great class for both beginners and experienced sculptors. Laid back vibe with knowledgeable teachers.

THIS IS A GREAT CLASS! Cynthia is an amazing teacher. The structure of the class is pretty loose, which is perfect for people who like to learn from doing, rather than from endless demonstrations and lectures. Perfect for beginners! I had never touched clay before taking this class and Cynthia and the other students made me feel incredibly comfortable and I ended up with a piece I am very proud of. If you have any interest in figurative sculpture, but no idea where to start, TAKE THIS CLASS! You won't regret it.
