Description

Step behind the scenes of history at our private photography event in the abandoned Infectious Disease Hospital on Ellis Island, an eerie and fascinating site closed since 1954.

This exclusive class offers special access to the measles ward, the psychiatric ward, the morgue, operating rooms, the second floor and areas normally closed to the public. Our private tour makes it possible for you to bring tripods, small lights, and other equipment to capture details of this decaying landmark.

During the day, we’ll learn advanced techniques for capturing the decay, light, and unique textures of the site with hands-on tips for shooting in low-light conditions and working with long exposures and bracketing.

As an added bonus, an Ellis Island guide will provide us with a deeper understanding of the immigrant experience and the hospital’s role in Ellis Island’s history.

Please Note:

  • Ferry fare to Ellis Island not included. Prebook general admission ferry ticket from New Jersey (Liberty State Park) or New York (Battery Park).
  • $200 of your registration fee goes to SAVE ELLIS ISLAND to repurpose, rehabilitate and reimagine the abandoned hospital buildings.

Refund Policy

Princeton Photo Workshop limits class size to provide our students with the best possible learning experience and we rely on your attendance to make important arrangements, including rentals and other preparations.  

  • If you are unable to attend a class, please email [email protected] as soon as possible.
  • Credits or refunds are available up to 14 days before the date of your class. 
  • If you cancel up to 7 days prior to the class, you may receive a full credit toward a future Princeton Photo Workshop class.
  • If you cancel within 48 hours of your class, you may receive a credit of 50% of your payment toward a future Princeton Photo Workshop class. 
  • If we do not receive notice from you prior to the day of your class, we are unable to provide a credit.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
