Adult: Beginner Still Life Painting

Examine everyday commonplace objects through painting, capture them in exciting compositions in this inspiring beginner’s painting course designed to encourage observational skills.

Study something natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, shells, skeletons, etc.) or man-made objects: books, vases, jewelry, coins, clothing, pipes, glasses or your favorite coffee mug! Study how these objects each have their own unique surface and texture, for example a transparent piece of glass, a metallic water bottle or the natural skin of fruit or flowers. Learn how to set your subjects in dynamic settings and see how the light reflects them to draw attention to the features that attract you.

We will also look at color and how to use self expression to manipulate your subjects into more unique representations. You are welcome to bring to class your own subject matter that inspires or has personal meaning to you. This is a great class for anyone who wants to pick up painting techniques and hone skills and suitable for beginners- intermediate level.

Materials:

• Canvas are NOT INCLUDED in your class fee. Please purchase a canvas and bring it with you to class, we recommend a medium size canvas to begin with. Canvas may be purchased at your local art store (support small business when you can!). Please note you may need more than one canvas for a full course package. If you are working in watercolor please bring a canvas designed for watercolor painting, or we can supply you with watercolor paper.
• Please note a limited selection of Canvas can also be purchased in our studio for $35 and upwards. If you are purchasing a canvas from our studio, payment must be completed at class time, please note we do NOT offer IOU’s so please have the exact change with you.
• Acrylic Paint and the use of brushes are supplied.
• Speciality supplies like gloss/glazes, or pouring mediums and glazes are NOT supplied, if you require these materials please bring them with you to class.
