This year marks the 400th anniversary of El Greco’s death. To commemorate the occasion, the MET is showcasing all of it’s canvases by this mysterious figure , along with its already rich collection of works by Diego Velazquez, Francisco de Goya, and Pablo Picasso.
Over the course of two hours, we will trace key characteristics of Spanish art–flattened perspective, a dark color palette, inattention to setting–from one master to the next.
Ultimately, we’ll see what makes Spanish art so powerful and uniquely expressive.
Museum admission included.
