Take your glassblowing in a new direction with this experimental class!
We will explore the possibilities of blowing glass into unexpected shapes using unconventional mold materials such as wet newspaper, clay, bananas, copper wire, ice, and more. Learn to set up your bubble for blowing different forms, including making a post-gather. Students can bring their own materials, but we will be careful to identify anything that may be toxic when burning (no paint, plastic, coatings, etc). Come prepared to play, and enjoy the experience as much as the results.
What to Expect: The first evening and full day will be in the hot shop, blowing into molds and experimenting in the hot shop. The second full day will be split between the hot shop and cold shop, so students can learn finishing techniques including hot popping and belt sanding.
Eligibility: Previous glassblowing experience required. You should have 1-2 years of experience, and feel comfortable gathering and moving through the steps of making a basic cup.
Open to ages 14 and up.
Pick-up: You can expect to bring some work to fruition during class that can be taken home at the end of the week. If anything is made on the last day of class, students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
