This course is where you will discover the pleasures of glassblowing and its relationship to wine. Two thirds of each class will be spent in the hot shop, with a focus on how to make stemless wine glasses. About an hour will be reserved at the end of each class to taste and learn about sommelier curated wines. We will demystify the grapes and the glassware shapes that best accentuate them. You’ll end the course with handmade glassware and confidence to pick out delicious wines that you can impress your friends with. Previous experience is not required for this course.
You must be 21+ to take this class.
What to Expect: Students will work together and learn to manipulate molten glass (2000 degrees). Safety and tools will all be covered in a fun and exciting environment. The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Glassblowing involves a variety of activities including sitting, standing, and working with hot glass. The environment can be very hot and loud at times. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity and ability to lift 5-10 lbs approximately.
Eligibility: No experience required. Open to ages 21 and up.
Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
