You'll also learn about threads, needles and stitches. Your newly-learned skills will be used to make a simple pillow.

Do you have a sewing machine and don't feel comfortable using it? Or are you thinking about buying a sewing machine but don't know enough about them? If the answer is yes to either question, this class will definitely help.

Q: How much do materials cost?
A: It depends on how much of the materials you already have, but the school estimates around $60-$70 if you need everything.

Unless noted, supplies are not included in the fee. A supply list will be e-mailed to students 2 weeks before class; call (212) 729-4088 with any questions. Beginning one week before the first class, students receive a 15% discount on most merchandise in our store, not limited to what is relevant to the class.

Refund Policy

Students may withdraw from a class up to 7 days before it starts, and receive a full refund less a $3.00 administrative fee; after that, refunds will only be made if a replacement student can be found. Please plan to attend all sessions; there are no make-up classes.

This is a great class. The instructor is patient, clear, funny and knowledgeable. The classroom is tucked in the back of a cute quilt shop stocked with lots of fabric and sample quilts (inspiring!). You'll leave the class knowing how to do a basic straight stitch (not sure if that's the technical name), plus a hand-made pillow.

Our teacher, Charles Johns was very clear with his instructions, very informative, funny and more importantly, very patient with us. It was amazing to see our finished products (our pillows) which we were all so proud of - and to think that most of us have never touched a sewing machine before!
