Programming Basics

Programming is an essential skill for making digital games, but setting out to learn it can be a daunting task. There are tons of languages, books, tutorials and sites - but where should you start? This class has been designed to teach you the basic concepts that are shared among all major programming languages. 

We'll start with what a variable is, work through functions, and dive into arrays. If you don't even know what any of that means, then this class is a great place to start. Or, if you've been coding for a bit and want to know some of the bigger concepts behind what you're doing, this will help a bunch.

In the class we'll cover: 

• Variables: What is a variable and how do they work? 
• Variable types: What is an int, float, string, and boolean? 
• Basic functions: The basic structure, how to call them, and scope. 
• For loops: The building block of code. How they work. 
• Arrays: Learning how data is stored and how to access it. 

After the class you'll be able to read code at a beginner level and be able to start learning your first programming language.
