Hybrid Emergency Medical Technician

This course has been designed to provide students with the essential education needed to render lifesaving care and maneuvers in a pre-hospital setting. This course is comprised of web-based didactic presentations, team-based learning activities, practical skills labs, patient simulation encounters, standardized patient encounters, and clinical/field experiences. 

This program will prepare students to effectively render all available techniques of basic life support presently considered within the scope of care for a New York State Certified Emergency Medical Technician.

General Topics: 
Safety & Wellness, Medical, Legal & Ethical Issues, Basic Anatomy & Physiology, General Pharmacology, Patient Assessment, Airway Management, Basic Life Support, Medical Emergencies, Trauma Management, Special Patient Populations, and EMS Operations.

Upon Course Completion: 
Students who successfully complete all aspects of this program will be eligible to participate in New York State and National Registry Practical & Written Examinations. Students will have also achieved credentials in the following disciplines:

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support
• FEMA Introduction to Incident Command Systems (ICS 100) for Healthcare/Hospitals
• FEMA Introduction to National Incident Management System (NIMS 700)
• Hazardous Materials Response- Awareness Level
