Description

Characters aren't created—they're discovered through the body. This intensive workshop uses Barrow Group principles to help improvisers find authentic, specific characters through physicality, breath, and impulse rather than idea or invention. Students will explore how small physical adjustments—a held breath, a shifted weight, a particular tension—can unlock entirely new ways of being on stage. Through exercises rooted in spontaneous play rather than planning, participants will learn to trust their bodies to create distinct, truthful characters that feel discovered rather than performed. We'll focus on responding from character rather than commenting on character, allowing unique voices, movements, and perspectives to emerge organically.

Perfect for improvisers who want to expand their range while staying grounded in authentic human behavior. Students will leave with practical techniques for finding bold character choices that serve the scene and their scene partner.
